Meet the buyer and seller. New feature on Sedo’s platform.

Sedo today announced new feature for domain buyers and sellers on their platform:

This month Sedo introduces a new Offer Details Page to the website to benefit buyers and sellers. Innovative features include a new Meet the Seller & Meet the Buyer feature, Seller & Buyer Activity Indexes, and VAT (Value Added Tax) information for our members completing transactions in the European market. The new Offer Details Page has a streamlined, easier-to-read design that should encourage members to communicate with one another and complete transactions more efficiently.

One of the reasons I do not like selling domains at Sedo is their crippled buyer/seller interaction process. The buyer has always better advantage because he knows who you are, whom he buys from. This is really helping to extract maximum value from the negotiation — seller’s cards are always open.

Now, this new feature which is slightly exposing activity of sellers and buyers is very handy.
It’s very helpful for sellers; not so much for buyers. When it comes to selling items from my domain portfolio, I do not like to deal with domain resellers and prefer to keep domains as own long-term investment. However, if it is an end user and he has reasonable offer to make, perhaps a good use for the domain, I normally sell.

With all the bids coming from Sedo, it was very hard to determine if it is a reseller or genuine end user, whether it is a silly buyer or a tycoon playing stupid. It still won’t be easy to find out who is who, but this step is a step in the right direction for Sedo.

Let’s see how we can gather buyer/seller information as a seller. When you visit any of your “Bid thread” pages, you have a link to see buyer’s info:

Now, suppose you’d like to find out if this buyer is also a seller and how active he is. Simply. Just substitute ‘role’ parameter and leave same ‘memberid’. You get the picture:
